Calories

Hey, Misty!!

I love your page.... you are a blessing!!

I always enjoy reading your posts/responses on the LCF website as well.

My question..... I know calories shouldn't count when eating LC, but I still would like to keep track.

If Fitday and the like say that I should aim for 1500 a day to lose, but then I exercise 300 calories away, should I be increasing my daily calories to 1800?

I don't want to lower my metabolism and I can't find a source of information to answer this question.

I know 1200 is about the lowest to go without lowering BMR, and I'd hate to go below that b/c of exercise. If I can add 300 worth of steak.... yay!!

Please advise!

Thanks you!

Hi and thank you for reading!

I'm glad you were able to find my site but most of all, thank you for the appreciation. It is my goal to get as much information out there as I can. For your health, your vitality and your self esteem.

You're right! I don't like to count calories but an awareness is always a good idea. Eventually once you get your groove, you may not count either.

I don't know your weight, activity level nor ultimate goal so I'm going to wing it here and give general advice.

Rather than an additional caloric amount and depending upon your workout, you might think in terms of "post recovery" foods. This will include of course protein and carbohydrate for muscle recovery and glycogen stores.

This also eliminates that "exercise reward" thought process which so many dieters fall victim to.

a post recovery suggestion, whey protein shake or 2 raw eggs blended with ice, coconut milk, almond milk or raw dairy.

Or, as you say, steak!

Rather than allowing calories dictate, eat to satiety and be aware of recovery.

As Always,
In Good Health

Question on Calories
by: Colette

Thanks Misty...you answered that question for me too. I am set up for 1400 cal a day and always go under it. I know we have discussed carbs before, but even when I eat under my cal amount why am I bouncing a lb or 2 daily? I know I have added the LC muffin and the blueberries and yogurt, and that is all added into my calorie allotment for the day. Could eating the yogurt late at night (I mean after 11 pm) have anything to do with me bouncing?

The yogurt could very well be affecting that 1-2 lbs. fluctuation you're experiencing. Dairy has lactose and lactose raises blood glucose.

Some are affected by late night eating and others are not. In some cases, those with relatively unstable blood sugar need a bit of protein/fat before bed or they awake with "low blood sugar" during the night.

One of the best reasons not to eat that late at night is to allow your human growth hormone to work which is activated approximately 1 hour after you fall asleep.

If you're consuming the yogurt because you are hungry, you might think about eating a bit more fat at dinner instead to maintain satiety.

Curiosity
by: Colette

Hi Misty,
I bought myself a yogurt maker. It makes 8-7oz servings. I am eating the yogurt in the morning only, and not every day.

I also switched to Truvia for my sweetener. It tastes much better and you don't really need that much.

I have this ongoing discussion with my mom. If I eat wrong, I see a gain on the scale the next day. Mom says its not actual weight gain, but water gain. I told mom, nope, not for me. If I have a candy bar, ok, maybe I had 2..lol, I see it on the scale the next day and its harder to take back off. If it was water gain, that would be gone by the next day...who is right?
