Pet Food

by Laurie Crum
(Rohnert Park, California)

Hi Misty, so now that we are all on our way to a healthier life, I have been hearing a lot about a raw food diet plan for our fun furry pets and would like to know your input.

There is Steves Raw Foods, and there is Feed This...where you can get delivery.. Another mind boggling research opportunity for myself. Anyway, any good ideas?

Hi Laurie

Congratulations first to your entire family for the huge leap you have all taken to a reduced carbohdyrate lifestyle. I'm so very proud of all of you and have enjoyed very much working with you!

Pet health is as you know just as important as human health. Interestingly enough, what causes cancer in humans generally transcends to pets.

Grain based dry food diets are not the healthiest option for our pet friends just as a grain based diet is not good for us.

I have chosen to put my dog on a raw food diet as well and have utilized 3 different brands as well have made the food myself. Steves, Primal and Feed This are the brands I have used and my dog seems to prefer Steves.

I am going to get a page written one of these days on the benefits of a raw food diet but in the meantime, should you want to research this a bit further, search The BARF diet. (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) There are varying opinions but most holistic vets will agree that this diet makes a healthier pet over all.

Should you decide to make your own, do look for a recipe that will provide your pets with complete nutrition.

In good health

The Raw Food Diet for Pets
by: Laurie Crum

Hi Misty, after researching and asking many of my agility dog friends and trainers I have found that there is a company here in Sonoma County called "Feed This" that has a strong belief in the raw food diet for our pets. So embarking on a new healthy feeding plan for my dogs we have jumped on the raw food band wagon and will probably never go back! Our dogs have become leaner, fitter, and more agile than ever before. We also have them on a special cod liver oil for pets and their skin is healthy and their coats are shiny. Feed This delivers directly to our door step every four weeks.

Hi Laurie!
I'm so glad your dogs are so healthy! I notice that when we are surrounded by other dogs, mine is very lean, agile and has a nice shiny coat.

What a timely post this is as I was just thinking about how healthy he looks last night while feeding.

Feed This Inc. is a fabulous caring company who produces in small batches. I'm glad you've found them and of course to support a local company is always preferred.

If I'm not mistaken, this company also has a CSA, Backyard CSA is the name of it. They're feeding pets and people friends!

I have a friend who is a pet nutrition expert and she claims there would be much less pet cancer and other illness with the feeding of a raw food diet.

In good health!
Misty
