Sugar Alcohols, Candida and Coconut Butter!

by Tiffanie

Hey Misty,
I've been enjoying your site here....very nice and informative!

Quick question - many of the recipes for the desserts call for Xylitol or Erythritol, does Candida feed off of those? Are the two interchangeable in a recipe?

Are you making the coconut butter or purchasing, and if so, is it difficult to find (do you know if it's at Whole Foods/Trader Joes?) As always, thanks so much!

Tiffanie

Hi Tiffanie

Thank you for your very good questions!

Both Xylitol and Erythritol, are in fact sugar alcohols. However, the end product is not alcoholic and does not feed candida.

Both happen to be interchangeable in my dessert recipes. I don't do a lot of experimenting in the kitchen with dessert so if you intend to do other baking, you might experiment a bit with both. Xylitol has a bit of a cooling effect on the tongue so I find that erythritol actually works best but it is much more expensive.

I purchase Artisana brand Coconut Butter at Whole Foods. Unfortunately, Trader Joes does not carry it.

Thank you for your compliments on my site. Or should I say "your" site? That's what this is about...."YOU"!

As Always,
In Good Health
Misty
