Trying to lose weight before pragnancy.

by Sarah
(NH)

Hi Misty,
I bought a copy of first Magazine just for your section in it!

I am 23 and my husband and I would like to start trying for a baby within the next 6-8 months.

The problem is, I have gained an embarrassing 90 pounds since my husband and I have been together (4 years). I am now the biggest I have been in my life 236 pound on a 5’4 frame.

I know that I HAVE to lose weight before getting pregnant, both for the safety of my baby and myself. I have started exercising for 30-45 minutes a day and dieting but of course only 1-2 pounds came off within 3 weeks.

It is very frustrating and I am beginning to feel as though I am a failure.

I am hoping that your plan will work for me.

If there is any advice you can give me to help with weight loss, and provide a healthy home for my future baby to grow in.

Also, any vitamins I should start? Thanks so much!

- Sarah

Hi Sarah!

I think I can speak for many when I say we've all gained the newlywed weight! Not hard to do....cuddle up on the couch together, grab some take out and never do we forget the ice cream! Sampling new recipes together, it can get the best of us. Love and food can create quite a chemical reaction!

You are wise to think about getting your weight down and body in order prior to pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes is at an all time high and that creates a dangerous atmosphere that can have life time effects on you and baby.

First, give yourself a big hug and do not feel like a failure. You are not....it's a result of a diet failing you.

What diet were you practicing that only allowed you to lose 2 lbs. in 3 weeks?

I highly recommend you commit to practicing the restricted Phase I as much as you can. If you add a bit of dairy or a few nuts to get by, don't let that trip you up. Just continue on with resolve and it will be uber helpful!

Grab yourself a nice whole food multi, and be sure you are taking a B supplement that contains Folic Acid. I would also begin taking cod liver oil and Vitamin D3 drops at about 4000IU if you've not been supplementing.

I will say that three of my favorite B sources include dessicated liver tablets, nutritional yeast and spirulina. You might even be magnesium deficient so 250-400mg of magnesium a day are also a good idea.

Eat well my friend and do keep me posted! I'd love to share your journey with you.

Remember, by instilling good habits within your own life today, it will create a healthier, happier home for your entire family.

Get your husband involved, treat yourselves to farmers markets on Sunday mornings if you can and the best advice? know thy body.

In good health Sarah!
Misty
